Beloved Stranger
Just realeased on Populuxe Records
This is Cindy Lee Berryhill's new CD and not only did I do the artwork on the cover, I play bass and sing harmony on almost all the tracks. My husband, Paul, plays guitar and mandolin, too.
This is her first CD in 8 years and the songs are a departure from her earlier work...less orchestral and more rock and roll. Also guest appearances by Dave Alvin, Lenny Kaye, Peter Case and John Doe. You can order the CD and listen to selected tracks on Populuxe Records' website. Cindy also has a page on MySpace.

Published by Chronicle Books. I just finished a 10 page color story for this anthology that should be out Spring 2005. 20 comix artist examine a timely subject: when and how we recognized our identity as "Americans", for better or worse. I have the perfect story: our family moved to Vancouver, Canada, when I was 9 years old. The story covers a 40 year period and is very autobiographical.

By Poppy Z. Brite will be a one story chapbook published by Subterranean Press, and I'm drawing the cover and 2 interior illustrations. Poppy is well known for her horror titles, like LOST SOULS and DRAWING BLOOD, and the last time we worked together, I designed the cover for PLASTIC JESUS, also pub'd by Subterranean. "Crown Of Thorns" centers around a coroner who works in New Orleans, and a strange thing he finds in an old dried up corpse.

Is brought to you by the Tom Pomplun, who's been doing the fabulous "Graphic Classics" anthologies. I did a one page illo for the "Mark Twain" book, and I'll be drawing 4 pages illustrating the famous poem "Gunga Din" by Rudyard Kipling in this upcoming book. It'll be available June 2005. Published by Fantagraphics, will sadly, be the last issue in this series. It should be available Feb. 2005, and will feature articles on Manga Masters, Vaughn Bode, and the Montreal Comix scene. The comics section, ( 32 artists!), is devoted to the theme of "SEDUCTION", ranging from the political, to sexual to just plain deranged. I did a 4 page story called "Gold Dig Me', which is a date-from-hell story.

"MASTERS OF American Comics" satellite events
February 11, Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. @ MOCA's Ahmanson Auditorium and 4 to 6 p.m. @ MOCA's Geffen
Panel: Comics & Politics.
Organizer and chair: Amy Pederson, Ph.D.
(It should be a mind-blower. Amy tells me participants will include David Collier, Mary Fleener, Lily Lau, and Ron Turner).
A full day discussion organized in conjunction with Masters of American Comics, this event is intended as both a supplement to and an alternate history for the canonical artists and works included in the exhibition. Artists, historians, and publishers from Asia and North America will hold a round table discussion in the morning session centered on comics and politics. The afternoon will include a series of artists' talks followed by the collaborative creation of a comic, a tradition begun with the underground comics movement in the late 1960s.
Advance reservations are strongly recommended.

BUDDY BLUE 1957-2006

Buddy Blue died in his home on April 2 2006 of a sudden heart attack. He was one of my closest friends to both my husband Paul and myself. He influenced our WIGBILLIES music and was a champion of underground comics. I always got encouragement and praise from Buddy about my work, in fact, he was one of the main people over the last 10 years that kept me going and made me realize I was BORN to draw comics. He leaves behind his wife, Annie and their 4 year old daughter, Lulu. I have an invisible bracelet on my arm that
says: "What Would Buddy Do?" because he always gave me good advice be it art or music and it was pretty much "Take no prisoners!!" I considered him to be one of my soul pals that I probably knew in another life.

There will be two benefits for Buddy:

May 4th, at the Belly Up will feature Dave Alvin, The Farmers, Steve Poltz, The Rugburns and Sven Erki Seaholm and The Wild Truth, and other fabulous acts for only $10. Show starts at 7:30pm.

The Casbah will host another benefit on June 18th, and this will be $20, but both stages will have acts. THE WIGBILLIES will kick off the event at 6:00pm on the Atari Stage. Jose Sinatra will host the gala which will go on until midnight. Other acts confirmed are Romy Kaye, Tomcat Courtney, The Truckee Brothers, The Farmers and much much more..
